HAIR LOSS, THINNING HAIR, BALD HEAD

This is a problem that troubles both genders, male and female into losing confidence. If left untreated, it can cause permanent hair loss consequently making possible recovery of the hair to be thick and black once again significantly more difficult.
The issue of thinning hair and hair loss is caused by many factors: poor blood circulation, lack of nutritious, too much DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) hormone and stress. Some types of illnesses also contribute to hair loss such as: anemia, thyrotoxicosis, diabetes and some hormone abnormalities found in women after giving birth, the use of chemical hair products like hair dye, hair dressing spray, hair infection, dandruff, overworking sebaceous gland, etc. Some people try to buy ointments or shampoos for treating hair loss but most of the time they tend not to work too well. This is due to the fact that they are not treating the problem at its core, thus the proper way to treat this is to analyze the root of problem specifically and treat accordingly for a clear and long-term results.
Daily, losing around 50-100 strands of hair is normal for everyone. However, if it is found that more than 100 strands are lost per day consistently for around a week that is probably the symptoms of hair loss, also it could be hairs which have broken off the center that may also be extended to other areas such as the eyebrows, beards for example.

The growth intervals and hair life cycle have been divided into a few phases down below

Individual results may vary.

    • The first phase is when the period in which the hair starts to grow, it lasts around 3 years and around 90% of all hair on the scalp is in this phase.
     • The second phase is when the hair stops growing, this phase lasts around 3 months.
     • The third phase is when the hair starts to fall out, this is due to the hair root slowly moving from the original spot in the conjoint area between the fat layer and the dermal layer to the middle of dermal layer. When tugging the hair lightly, it can fall out very easily, this phase lasts around 3 weeks.
     • The break phase is the hair root stop growing for another 3-5 months before starting to regrow.

There are many different main causes of hair loss as follows

Primary factors of each hair loss symptom

Individual results may vary.

• Alopecia Areata
This is the symptom in which the hair falls in patches of circle or oval shapes and can extend to other parts of the body as well. Some patients do regain their hair growth within the time frame of 6 months to a year; however, some patients also experience the conditions again afterwards. About 50% of this type of hair loss is due to stress or some abnormalities in the immune system of the hair root’s cells. The treatment needed for new hair growth is not difficult, it just requires the proper method fit for each patient to create new hair rapidly without the risk of hair loss again.

This type of hair loss generally comes from genetics and overworking system of testosterone hormone due to age. This generally starts in males aged 20 and above in which some may experience hair thinning in the front of or in the very middle of the scalp. In females, there may be some symptoms of hair thinning around the middle of the scalp, while the frontal side of scalp hair remains the same size but the amount of hair may reduce causing it to look like the hair has thinned.
In addition, there are many causes of hair loss, for example:
     • Disorders of the thyroid gland.
     • SLE
     • Lack of protein or iron.
     • syphilis infections
     • drugs used to treat cancer.
     • The use of force to pull hair (ex. tight hair band).
     • Hair loss in children may result from a fungal infection of the scalp causing hair loss in the infected area.

TREATMENT OF ANDROGENETIC ALOPECIA

Other than this, there are more factors for hair loss such as:

     • Abnormality in the Thyroid Gland

     • SLE

     •Lack of protein or iron

     • Syphilis

     •Certain medication for cancer

•Excessive force which pulls the hair (i.e. strapping the hair too tightly)

•Hair loss in children can be caused by a mold infection on the scalp, this causes hair loss around the specific area of infection.

Currently there are medications which are proven to be effective in treating this type of hair loss, these are: Minoxidil, Finasteride and Dutasteride which can be an topical solution or oral medication together. The use of medication should only be controlled by the doctor, the doctor is the person who will determine your medicine intake. Another important note is that you should not stop medication by yourself, as a sudden pause in medication can cause the symptoms to come back.
     •    Minoxidil is an topical solution which boosts the growth of hair causing the size of the hair strand to almost double. This medication however requires constant medication and if stopping medication, the symptoms can return.
     •    Finasteride ¬¬solution can also reduce up to 40% of the testosterone hormones level in the scalp which reduces the chance of hair loss in males and females.
     •    The oral form of Minoxidil creates a thickening of hair on the scalp, eyebrows, body hair and legs hair within 2 months. Side effects include that some patients may experience swelling in the area around the eyes or face. If hair starts to grow, we must slowly reduce the amount of medication. If stopping medication immediately, the hair loss symptoms will return and when resuming medication, there will need to be a double in dose as the illness may develop resistance level to the medication. Should not be used in women as moustaches may grow.
     •     The oral form of Finasteride in men. After 3-4 months of treatment, it is found that 70% of patients have regrown their hair but require constant medication after that for at least 2 years. The medication may not work in menopause females, unless the patient still has high testosterone levels which give good result.
     •    By using a hair regrowth shampoo specially formulated and developed by the team of dermatologists and hair loss specialists at BSL clinic which has certified ingredients and hair growth factors, washing the hair every 1-2 day for the period of 3-6 months can stop all male hormones and develop the hair root to be stronger. This is proven by stunning results from our patients.
     •    For an effective treatment it is recommended to use all 3 medications at the same time.
     •    Other possible alternatives include: Cimetidine, Flutamide, Spironolactone and green tea extract.
     •    Hair transplants is another way in treating hair loss from heredity, modern day hair transplant do gives satisfactory results. They look quite similar to natural hair, it is possible to comb and style, moreover can help create permanent hair. On the flip side, hair transplants may require multiple sessions, and even though permanent hair may grow you may need to continue the process multiple times. The amount will all depend on how much hair has been lost and the expertise of the surgeon.
